Sunday Social

1. What is your dream job? I wish I would have went to school to be a teacher or a librarian. .

2. If you had just won the lottery and didn't have to work for money, what would you do with your time?  I would go back to being a stay at home mom.  I would volunteer at the school and would hang out in my house and make lunch for my high school and junior high daughters.

3.  What piece of career advice would  you give someone just starting out in your field? If you are going into family services...do it for love not money.  The money isn't there but helping families, if it is your passion, is very rewarding. Also, have a plan B because our funding is always being cut.  Seriously....

4.  What would be your ideal "just for fun" job?  I would love to be able to go to the hospital and hold babies in the NICU.  I think that would be very rewarding and I could get my "baby fix".

5.  What was your first "real" job?  I was a caseworker for adults dually diagnosed with Mental Illness and Developmental Disabilities.  It was an amazing job and I had the absolute best bosses and coworkers.  It really spoiled me for the rest of my working life.  They were there for me through some pretty difficult times and I will always be blessed to have worked with them and for the clients I served as well. Part of my heart will always be with that first job and the people I met....

I am still in the family services field, but I am now a literacy specialist and get to go into child care centers and family child care homes and read to children. I also help families find child care facilities in their areas.  It is very rewarding, I am back on my college campus, and I work with great people

This is a link up with the blogs listed above...check them out and play along if you also have a blog.  I really love writing prompts and love hearing about other people....I guess that is why family services was my field of choice :)

Five on Friday

1.  I am loving the new shows that started this week.  CSI, Glee, Mom, Big Bang Theory.  I am not saying every choice I make is family appropriate, but we all have a guilty pleasure...lol

2.  I have still not updated my IPhone because I have too much on it.  Finding time to delete pictures off the phone, etc.  has not made my priority list as of yet.

3.  My coworker had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich the other day and I have been crazy hungry for one since.  I finally indulged and it was heavenly!!!

4.  We have our new tradition of Birthday Breakfast at my mother in laws tomorrow...I am loving this new spin on the family party (I love breakfast food).  I am taking Grape Salad because my niece loves it  (it isn't even her birthday)

5. Watched Madi play in her basketball game Monday night.  She looks so grown up to me this year.   Sometimes I just sit and stare at her....until she catches me and gets self-conscious...

So that is how my week has wrapped up.  I am looking forward to a great weekend and maybe a few naps :)

The Witch's Grave

When you live in a small town, there are always the stories you have heard forever but don't know if they are really true.  Case in point...The "Witch's" Grave.

There is a small cemetery outside of our little town that has a strange grave.  The stone is round and looks like it is set upon a camp fire.  The date of death for the woman who is buried there is February 31st and is dated from the late 1800's.  It is all very strange, but it has me thinking.  What if it was a "typo"?  What if she just had eccentric or careless children?  What if she was the lady who went to church every Sunday and sat in her favorite pew and was known for her amazing apple pie?  Who is this lady?

What kind of story will we leave behind when we pass away?  Will it be based on fact or suspicion?  Will it even be based on our life?  Hmmm, some interesting thoughts to ponder.  Maybe I should research it.  If anyone reading this knows anything about the grave, please share.

The neighbor boy didn't think we should go visit because "witches are real and they steal your socks!!"  Since this family has a history for losing socks as it is, we gambled and went.  We came back with our socks, but this time I had a lot more questions......

I will Never.....

I saw this on the blog A Complete Waste of Makeup and decided to play along.....
Never ever, ever, will I.....
Not love to drink coffee on a chilly morning (ok, or any morning).
Not love to hear a group of men singing traditional hymns.
Not enjoy a good church potluck (ohh, there is nothing like a buffet full of casseroles!)
Not love fall decorations more than any other time of year.
Not want to eat my weight in candy corn (oh, the restraint I must show).
Not get excited when I find a cute pair of boots that fits my short stumpy legs well.  (this year I have found two)

Fall To Do List

Alright....I did not do very well on my summer to do list.  But just like my resolutions, it is always good to have goals and you can always start over.  So here goes.....

This fall I "will".....

Make a new pumpkin recipe that I have never tried before.

Have most of my Christmas shopping done before Thanksgiving.

Have my Christmas cards ordered and out by the first week of December.  Ok, at least ordered.

Go to the pumpkin patch before the last week of October.

Start making a monthly disc of my IPhone pictures, so I don't have to make 10 discs at one time. (true story)

Social Sunday on a Monday

Some random Penny facts....

1. What is your favorite fall activity?  High school football, the pumpkin patch, fires at night (I will so appreciate Cassie's fire skills this year), and Halloween.

2.  Do you follow a football team?  The local high school's of course!! Go Titans!! I love knowing who is actually under those helmets, but the sound of a tackle makes my stomach queasy for the same reason.  For college I like the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and pro is of course the Green Bay Packers....but to say I follow them would not be the truth.  I am easily bored by televised sports, in person however, I am a Super Fan!!

3.  What is something fun about fall in your area?  I would say the local pumpkin patches.  Our family enjoys the corn mazes, hay rides, and definitely the pumpkin ice cream and Amish baked goods.  Oh yeah, they sell pumpkins too :)

4.  What are your favorite fall staple outfits?  Hoodies, turtle neck sweaters, jeans ( I LOVE JEANS), and scarves.

5.  What things are you looking forward to most about this coming fall season?  I am a little sad because this will be the last things for Katie this fall as far as high school.  The last homecoming parade, dance, game, etc.....however I am looking forward to seeing her do these favorite activities still the same.

6.  What is your favorite fall holiday?  Tradition?  I love Halloween and Thanksgiving.  I love the dressing up and start planning it the day after Halloween is over for the next year.  I love the pumpkin patch.  I love that our family has Thanksgiving together (my side) and that we look forward to it every year.

Blessed Sunday

I have been absent most of the summer from my blog because I have been spending more time doing the important things in life....or shall I say spending time with the important people in my life.  Doug and I have been riding the motorcycle quite a bit, we even had a weekend away where we went to the motorcycle races and visited family out in the western part of the state.  Our family made the trip out to the east coast to be part of my brother in law and new sister in law's wedding.  While on the trip we went to Gettysburg (Doug was in history buff heaven) and to Niagara Falls (WOW).  We have  been to cookouts and softball games.  Had a few birthday celebrations and spent time doing our favorite summer activity....the pool.

The most important thing I have learned this summer is that being content with what your life currently looks like, and being patient for the things you would like to see happen really makes life more enjoyable in the now.  I am giving up my desire for "ideals".  If you know me very well, I am not the "ideal" housewife, but I am a good homemaker.  I love my family more than anything except God and I am realizing that rather than beating myself up over the trivial things.....like unfolded laundry and a sink full of dishes, I am enjoying the moments with the ones I love.  Guess what? What they want is more of me.....I can do that.

I am sad that summer is wrapping up and that winter is fast approaching.  I do love so many aspects of fall....high school football games, pumpkins, warm coffee on a chilly fall day, harvest (Doug calls it the Farmer's Prom), Halloween decorations, and sweatshirts (I really do love a good hoodie).  Every year I vow to appreciate winter (has not happened yet) and all its cold and snowy glory.....maybe this year.   But one thing I plan to do is continue to focus on the now and the people in it.  God's timing is perfect.  Contentment is a heart issue and I will continue to keep my heart and mind focused on what is important.

Have a Blessed Sunday dear friends......

September Currently

Just what you wanted,  more  random facts about me and what I am up to.  Well, some people must want to know or you wouldn't be reading my blog....haha.

Listening to... the sound of myself think....finally..... I have changed part of my job responsibilities this week and have felt a little overwhelmed until today.  I love feeling settled.

Loving....my new job responsibilities.   It was just the change I was needing to feel some extra peace in my life.

Thinking...that a weekend at home is also what this gal has been needing.  Even though next weekend I am off and running again.

Wanting... to get a Starbucks on the way home today.  Some Darius Rucker on my CD player and a mocha recharges me for the transition from worker to mom.  I am going to skip the cake pop even though I don't want to.  I am also enjoying my recent weight loss from being more aware of my calorie intake.

Needing... to make a menu plan for suppers this next week.  If I write it down, maybe I will be more likely to cook at home.  Well maybe right??
