Blessed Sunday

So.....what do people who have been married for almost 14 years do for fun??

Go to Home Depot without their kiddos!!

Yep, that was date day.  Lunch at B-Dubs, Shopping at Home Depot, and visiting a friend at the hospital.  But as I said above, no kiddos!!   No, this is not how we always spend our date time.  We go to movies, out with friends, and sometimes just drive around in the country.  Ok, old people dates....lol

Doug and I are finally in a new season of life.  We do not have to always find a sitter to enjoy time together.  It makes me sad that our gals are growing up, but getting to know my hubby again is a privilege and benefit to this time in our lives.

I love my gals....but I enjoy not having to tend to one million needs every other minute.  It is also nice not to have to sensor every word, make sure people are not eating gum off the bottom of the table at a restaurant (true story), or go to the bathroom and assist anymore.  Breathing room.......

Being a mom of preschoolers is exhausting. Being a mom of older children is exhausting, but in a different kind of way.   I have found that I enjoy high schoolers and find them incredibly funny.  junior highers are the weirdest people to walk the planet, and elementary kiddos are still sweet and cuddly for the most part without being quite as high maintenance as the preschool years.

I am blessed to have spread my four girls out over the course of a ten year span, so I get to experience all of these age groups for a long time.  Doug and I have managed to postpone the empty nest until we are almost retirement age...lol

I am a young mom in one class and an old mom in another.  I have some experience with one child and am thrown new experiences with the others.   I love it!!!!

I complain a lot about our schedules being to jam packed, but it is a season of life and I know it.  I still thank God every day for these blessings on my life.

Have a wonderful and blessed week my friends

Doug said this picture was too old to use, I reminded him it is one of the only ones of just us.  I guess we need a photog session :}

Daybook....

Good Morning, I am linking up with  The Simple Woman's Blog  for the weekly Daybook For today... February 9, 2015 Outside my window .... Chilly (in the 30's for a high) but no snow.  Most of the snow has melted from the warm temps this weekend. I am thinking ... that I had a great, great weekend with my family. I am thankful. .. that my children view each other as important.  We had to plan Lucy's birthday celebration around Katie's work hours because she just started her new job and can't request time off.  Lucy would have never considered celebrating her birthday without her big sis present. I am wearing. .. my sparkly sweater again.  I must need the sparkles to handle a Monday morning. I am creating ... nothing at the moment, but do have some unfinished projects.  My mind has been exhausted lately and I am just chilling and puttering around. I am praying ... for a family decision that could make a huge difference in our live...

Friday's Fav Five

Today I am joining it with a new link up for me.  It is hosted by  Living to Tell the Story .   My Friday Fav Five list goes something like this... 1. My three older girls were still up watching television together when I went to bed last night.  My room is right next to the living room so I could hear their conversations.  Although I wasn't ease dropping, I did start to listen.  They were talking about casual and personal things.  I realized that they are all growing up and their conversations with each other are growing as well.  It was like listening to a group of 3 women talking over coffee.  My heart wanted to burst and I may have teared up or actually cried..... maybe. I am so thankful for this wonderful bond they will have with each other for the rest of their lives. 2.  I am just thankful it is Friday.... we have had snow and strep throat at our house this week.  I am ready to shut the books on this we...

Your Favorite Christmas Tradition

  We have developed many traditions for our family over the years.  We always open one present on Christmas Eve, we have Grinch Punch on Christmas Eve, we lay out cookies and a beer for Santa (this has been since my childhood), sprinkle oatmeal in the yard for the reindeer, have sparkling grape juice and chocolate eclairs on Christmas morning, and we go see a movie as a family on Christmas afternoon at the movie theater.   Leading up to Christmas we have chocolate advent calendars, have fun with R.J. our Elf on the Shelf, go to the surrounding towns that have light displays on a  snowy evening, attend  the Santa breakfast in town, and enjoy the school's Christmas program.   We have many family dinners and get togethers to attend to wish everyone a wonderful holiday and spend quality time with the ones we love.    My favorite tradition?  Probably leaving cookies and beer for Santa.  I don't know how it started but...
